As part of our Partnership with FIRST and LEGO, nine of Upsala's 5th grade students are participating in the FIRST LEGO League Challenge event. This competition is designed for 4th through 8th grade students. They have a design based challenge in which the students will build a LEGO Robot that needs to perform upwards of 15 unique tasks on a gameboard. In similar fashion to our Team 4480 - UC-Botics - High School Robotics team, the FLL Challenge team will be competing with other teams from around Minnesota. Team #64211 - the Upsala Cardinals will make their debut at the Bemidji Sanford Center on December 15th for their first Competition!
This year's theme is called Masterpiece and follows a unique background of the Arts in each of the challenge elements. Each competition lasts 2:30 seconds, and will be done in conjunction with another school's team at the same time. There is a collaborative portion to the event too, where if both teams can create and adjust one field element to match the other team's there is bonus points awarded.
Our 9 students are excited to be helping pilot this program, and have been doing an incredible job in getting their robot built, strategizing on how to accomplish the various tasks, and now will be starting their programming to accomplish the various tasks!
We look forward to sharing more details about the event in the near future, and will share out the students' reactions and excitement for the competition following!
Go Cardinals!
