Principal Greeting

Cardinal Head High School Student of the Month

Staricka's dedication to his own education and the education of those around him led to his being named as the March Senior High Student of the Month. In Robotics and Shop classes, he has piloted new technologies and then helped younger students to learn those same tools. He has worked hard to apply to college and as many scholarships as he qualifies for. He is an exceptional student. He is the son of Joey and Dianne Staricka. His sister is Jessica.

Staricka's favorite class is Robotics. He also feels it is his most valuable class because of the technical skills he has learned. He has also enjoyed the students that have been in the class with him and the teacher. In high school, he has earned subject area student of the month a number of times. He was also recently named an NJPA Rising Star Award winner.

Staricka has been involved with Robotics, FFA, and Band. In robotics, he was the build captain. In FFA, he has been an officer at large. Outside of school, he is employed by Oxen Acre Dairy Farm. He also built the Upsala Disc Golf Course.

Staricka's hobbies include golf, disc golf, restoring and repairing vehicles, and designing and engineering. He plans to attend Hibbing Community College in the fall for Industrial Systems. His advice to his classmates is "If you need help, ask."

Cardinal Head Junior High Student of the Month

Paige Gerads has been chosen as the March Upsala Junior High Student of the Month. She is the seventh grade daughter of Jamie and Rebecca Gerads. Her brothers are Peyton and Lucas Gerads.

In school, Gerads participates in Junior High Basketball, and Softball. She swims for the Holdingford swimming team. She also participates in FFA, Knowledge Bowl, and Drama club. She has received subject area student of the month many times and has been on the A Honor Roll for all three quarters this year.

Gerads says that her favorite class is social studies because she enjoys reading older historical fiction and history books, especially books like Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. She also just really enjoys the material she learns in the class. She feels her most valuable class is English because it is needed for applying to jobs and college. It is also used when writing emails and resumes.

Outside of school, Gerads enjoys playing with her brothers and dogs. In the summer, she enjoys camping and swimming. She also likes to bake and read. She is very excited to attend the upcoming Teen Lit Con in May. She serves her community by cleaning ditches near home during the summer and placing wreaths on the graves of veterans at Camp Ripley around Christmas.

In the future, Gerads plans to attend college to be a doctor or lawyer. Her advice for her classmates is "Never give up on yourself. You can accomplish more than you think."
